Rain Garden Project

A rain garden is a shallow depression that is planted with deep-rooted native plants and grasses. The location of the garden is selected based on its ability to intercept runoff from hard surfaces, such as a roof, sidewalk, or paved area. The garden below is positioned to filter runoff coming from Interstate 81 South. Please look for more educational signs where you can learn about how a rain garden works and what plants can grow in a rain garden!

Names and logos of organizations participating in partnership are listed below the text: West Virginia Division of Highways, District 5; West Virginia Conservation Agency and Eastern Panhandle Conservation District; and Chesapeake Bay Program - A Watershed Partnership. It was dedicated in 2013.

This rest stop in Berkeley County is located in the northeast corner of the state, one mile east of its border with Maryland along the Potomac River where the Potomac River Bridge carries Maryland Veterans Memorial Highway/I-81 over the river.
