The Pyramid of Austerlitz was built in 1804 in honor of Napoleon. There was a large army camp on this spot and to prevent boredom, the soldiers built the pyramid in 27 days. The pyramid was built of sand sods and topped with a wooden stake.
After the soldiers left in 1805 to go to war in Germany, three soldiers were appointed for maintenance.
However, the pyramid fell into disrepair and for years nothing was done with it.
At the 200th anniversary it was decided to restore the pyramid.
The total height is now 33 meters including the 16 meter high obelisk. After the restoration, the pyramid can be climbed again. You have to climb 81 steps before standing on the viewing platform. The staircase was equipped with railings during the restoration and is easy to climb.
A visit to the information center, the areas around the pyramid and the climb costs Euro 3.50.
