"In Papekop bevond zich al aan het begin van de 19e eeuw een lagere school, die meerdere keren is herbouwd en verbouwd." Er was echter altijd sprake van een gering aantal leerlingen en daarom moest men periodiek de school stilzetten en de kinderen kregen toen les in Oudewater. Het huidige pand dateert van 1914.

"Vanaf die tijd lijkt het hard achteruit te gaan met de school. In 1922 was het aantal leerlingen gedaald tot 4 en werd besloten dat de openbare school nu toch echt opgeheven zou worden. De school werd in bruikleen overgedragen aan de ‘Vereniging voor de oprichting en instandhouding van scholen met de Bijbel’. De 4 leerlingen van de openbare school gingen voortaan in Oudewater naar school. Een jaar later nam de vereniging de school in eigendom over. De onderwijzerswoning bleef wel in het bezit van de gemeente. In 1929 vond nog een verbouwing en uitbreiding van het schoolgebouw plaats, voorlopig de laatste.

Bijna tien jaar later dreigde de christelijke basisschool alweer opgeheven te worden in verband met financiële problemen. De rijksvergoeding voor de school zou opgeheven worden. Doordat deze uiteindelijk toch niet verdween, kon de school blijven bestaan. Uiteindelijk heeft de School met den Bijbel ‘Eliëzer’ nog tot 1995 standgehouden."
