The Land of the Seven Colors of Chamarel is one of the most surprising natural sites on Mauritius, a very rare geological formation that we can admire to the south, near the Chamarel Waterfall. At first glance they look like colored dunes in the middle of a lush forest. Ocher, red, yellow, green, violet, blue, purple ... they call it the Land of Seven Colors because of its appearance. This unique soil is composed of molten lava and fusions of aluminum, zinc, iron and copper, mineral oxides of different colors and densities, so they cannot be mixed, even when there are storms and heavy rains. The colors therefore remain intact, without mixing at any time .
You can admire the Land of the Seven Colors from a walkway - in the past you could walk on these multi-colored dunes, but now it is prohibited, as it is protected. And in the upper part you can see a spectacular panorama of an amphitheater of ravines covered with tropical vegetation, and in the distance the picturesque Cascada de Chamarel.
Light greatly influences this landscape, so it is a good idea to visit the Land of the Seven Colors early in the morning or at sunset , since the contrasts are greater and the spectacle more beautiful.
The visit to the Land of the Seven Colors offers geology enthusiasts and travelers in general a unique experience.
