Dartmoor has long been exploited for it's Granite, - building stones, millstones, gate posts, apple crushers, field rollers etc. Stone cutters would work large Granite stones on the moor cutting sculpturing various items.
This is an example of a Granite trough that has started to be cut from the Granite but unfortunately abandoned for whatever reason. The moor is littered with numerous - generally unseen artefacts like this one
