Cadover Cross is one several crosses erected to mark the route that the monks of the Priory at Plympton would have used on their way to Tavistock Abbey.
The monks would have crossed the River Plym by way of the ford, which is on the lower side of the bridge. Later a clam, or clapper bridge, was erected as a forerunner to the current road bridge.
