The baroque Jesuit Stairs in the old town of Dubrovnik were designed by the Roman architect Pietro Passalacqua. It dates back to 1738 and looks like the Spanish steps in Rome, Italy - but only smaller. From the lower Gundulic Square the stairs go up to the church of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the Jesuit College - thus the name.

The Jesuit Stairs have become particularly famous in the last couple of years, because the serious "Game of Thrones" used it as a filming location for the famous "Walk of Shame" (or Walk of Atonement) of Cersei in episode 10 of season 5. It is said, that this scene was one of the most expensive ones shooted in Dubrovnik, because the market at the bottom of the stairs and all the shops had to close during the filming. And they paid to the residents left and right of the stairs to not look out of the windows. And additionally the scene needed a lot of editing to get rid of telephone and electricity cables and other modern stuff.
