The Dijksynagoge foundation is located in Sliedrecht. The old synagogue, dating from 1845, is located in Sliedrecht East, at Rivierdijk 51.
The synagogue is now popularly known as the Dijksynagoge. In the first place because it was built on the dike, in the second place to distinguish itself from all other synagogues in the world, none of which – as far as we know – exist that are also located on a dike.
The foundation set itself the goal of preserving the building for the future and in the first place making it suitable for worship. In view of the relatively small number of Jewish inhabitants in the area, and the fact that a service is only held occasionally, the emphasis of the activities is on use for other purposes.
You will find the Dijksynagoge at Rivierdijk 51 in Sliedrecht. The property is easy to find from the A15 by taking the Sliedrecht-Oost exit. Then you go up the dike, into Sliedrecht and the first building on your right, under the high-voltage pylon is the Dijksynagoge.
