The Stations of the Cross are located along the east border of Holy Cross Cemetery. All of the stations are placed on concreate plinths and are constructed of a wide variety of stones. Some of the stones are smoothed, some are rough cut and some have been left in their natural state. Each station is numbered with Roman Numerals, I is on the south end of the line. Above the numerals are a relief sculpture showing the fourteen events from the Passion of the Christ.

The first Station of the Cross is dedicated to the Rev. John Shanley. Right Revered John Shanley, who served as the first Bishop of North Dakota from 1889-1909, according to the Diocese of Fargo's website.
