Sint Petrusschool - Waalwijk, NL - Former Schools on Waymarking.com

The school, which used to be located directly opposite the monastery, was built in 1913 in traditional style.

In 1924 the monastery at the Grotestraat 198-200 was built. It was designed by architect J. van Ree from Waalwijk. It was greatly expanded and modified in 1957 by architect F. Lambriex from Tilburg.

The monastery chapel had a bell tower. In a gable niche stood a statue of the Divine Child Jesus, made by brother Cephas Stouthamer. Due to the construction of De Els, the building was located in a shopping center. The brothers left it in 1999, a year later it was demolished. The school building across the street was used as a library for some time. Later it became a large shop.

The 1924 building had a rectangular floor plan. On the left side of the facade was a square turret with a spire. The school building has a long facade with a niche with a statue of a saint in the facade. It ends in two square towers, with windows with lintels in Art Deco style and a bent spire. In addition to the greenery, the monastery garden included an orchard.

Currently the building is used as a shop. Several investors are considering to revitalize the building as a public library combined with new appartments.
