The Devonport leat tunnel is cut through the hillside from Nun Cross Ford to Old Farm. The western end near Old Farm started off as a mine adit and used to go in the direction of the nearby mounds towards Nuns Cross. It was then taken over and extended into the Devonport Leat Tunnel. The distance measured by GPS is .37 of a mile. The above co-ordinates are for the western end, the eastern end is N50.30.640 W003.57.941 you only need to visit one end to log your visit, please add a photo.
Devonport Leat is a considerable engineering achievement. It was built in the 1790's to take fresh water to the ever growing docks of Devonport in Plymouth, but now it terminates at Burrator reservoir. The water is taken from the West Dart River and the Cowsic, north of Two Bridges. Only the Dartmoor section of the leat survives due to building and modernization within the city of Plymouth.
