The Baardwijkse Overlaat is a nature reserve between Drunen and Waalwijk and has been managed by Vereniging Natuurmonumenten since 1978. The area was constructed in 1766 and first functioned in 1769. The area had the function of collecting the water of the Maas in times of flooding

In this area 48 hectares are owned by Natuurmonumenten. This consists of forest, agricultural land and the Nieuwe Wiel (or Lange Wiel), which was created in the 18th century when a dyke breached. Surrounding this is a forest that was planted in the 60s of the 20th century and consists of pedunculate oak, American oak and bird cherry, as well as poplar and Norway spruce.

To the north you will find the nature reserve Elshoutse Wielen and to the south you will find the nature reserves Plantloon and Loonse en Drunense Duinen on sandy soil.
