From the fortress of Pasciola, we are waiting for the little train that will come out of the tunnel and that has just gone around the mountain.

Petite histoire du train de Corse

Credits

Short history of the Corsican train

The Trinighellu celebrated its first centenary on February 1, 1988. It took 16 years of work to build a railroad that crosses mountains, spans rivers, and runs along cliffs... Gustave Eiffel participated in this great adventure by building the Ponte-Vecchio. The train has now been renovated: it is comfortable and air-conditioned.

There is only one railroad in Corsica, which means that the trains can only cross each other in the stations... the calculation is fine but it happens that it is necessary to wait a little in some stations.

Corsica is undoubtedly very beautiful seen from the train: you can see all the better its reliefs, its colors, its nature...

Discover the island of Beauty, Corsica!

My favorite sections : Between Corte and Vizzavona In the heart of Corsica and its mountains, the landscapes behind the glass are beautiful walks in the middle of nature.

In Corte: The Restonica valley is beautiful! In summer, swimming in the torrents is one of the most popular activities. The hike from the train station to the top of the Restonica is 20 km long. But you can also rent a bike at the station!

After the station of Venaco, a village famous for its cheese festival on the first weekend of May, the train passes over the Eiffel bridge of the Veccio, classified as a historical monument and built especially for the passage of the train between 1890 and 1892. It is 170.96 m long and 84 m high. It gives you vertigo but also a breathtaking view on the valley. Just below, the road bridge is much lower!

Then comes the station of Vivario, then the one of Vizzavona. There, you have to enjoy the mountain cirques, the hikes in the forests... Vizzavona is the central point of the famous GR 20. For the less courageous, the walk to the Cascade des Anglais is quite nice.
