Hebben we het hier over de nieuwe Dionne Slagter of Kiki Schippers? Woerdenaar Frans ontpopt zich langzamerhand als lokale bekendheid. Dat is best bijzonder, want Frans is niet zomaar ‘iemand’. Hij is een kabouter. De kabouter werd drie jaar geleden (2017) door Marcha Kortekaas (48) uitgenodigd in Woerden te gaan wonen. “Ik vond een deurtje bij de bouwmarkt en dacht ‘dat is ideaal voor een kabouterhuisje’.”
De kabouter zelf heeft ze nooit gezien. “Hij komt alleen ’s nachts naar buiten,” lacht ze. Toch hebben er wel eens kabouters voor zijn deur gestaan. “Regelmatig zetten mensen spulletjes voor zijn deur, van kabouters tot aan een hondje en de laatste keer zelfs een miniatuur afhaalmaaltijd van El Rey. Fantastisch toch, daar zit gewoon liefde in.”
Ze vindt het bijzonder dat Frans zo bekend is geworden. Zijn Instagramaccount telt inmiddels meer dan 300 volgers. “Dat had ik nooit verwacht van te voren. Leuk toch?” Zijn naam heeft hij te danken aan de straat waarin hij woont. “Als je Frans heet dan moet je wel in de Franse Steeg wonen.” Inmiddels is kabouter Frans inspiratie voor meerdere kabouterhuisjes in Woerden.

She never saw the gnome himself. “He only comes out at night,” she laughs. Yet there have sometimes been gnomes at his door. “People regularly put things in front of his door, from gnomes to a dog and last time even a miniature takeaway from El Rey. Fantastic, there is just love in it. ”
She thinks it's special that Frans has become so famous. His Instagram account now has more than 300 followers. “I never expected that in advance. Nice is not it?" He owes his name to the street in which he lives. "If your name is Frans, you have to live in the Franse Steeg." Gnome Frans has now become the inspiration for several gnome houses in Woerden.
