Located near the center of Alamogordo New Mexico Along the Railroad line.
I happened to get up early one morning on a trip through and got to view the sunrise over the mountians by this tank.

DESCRIBED BY COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY 1943 (EHB) A WATER TANK OF THE SOUTHERN PACIFIC CO. RAILROAD, LOCATED DIRECTLY ACROSS THE RAILROAD TRACKS FROM THE DEPOT. IT IS 130 FEET W OF THE DEPOT AND 20 FEET S OF RANGE WITH THE N SIDE OF THE DEPOT, 90 FEET W OF MAIN TRACK AND 40 FEET W OF W RAIL, AND ABOUT 8 FEET N OF RANGE WITH CENTER LINE OF 10TH STREET. TANK IS A LARGE, SQUAT, BLACK STRUCTURE. THE TANK PROPER IS ABOUT 40 FEET DEEP FROM THE PEAK OF THE CONICAL ROOF TO THE OVAL BOTTOM, AND ABOUT 27 FEET IN DIAMETER. THE ENTIRE STRUCTURE IS ABOUT 65 FEET HIGH.
The Depot is now gone.
