Het bouwwerk dat u hier treft is een replica van een oude stuw: De Batinghe Schut. Het origineel stond eeuwenlang een stukje verder in de Dwingeler Stroom. Aan de as hing een zware houten schut aan kettingen welke in het najaar neer werd gelaten en in het voorjaar weer omhoog worden getakeld. De slib welke door de opstuwing werd verzameld diende als meststof voor de naastgelegen weilanden. Door de komst van kunstmest raakte de sluis overbodig en kwam hij in verval.
Deze reconstructie is gemaakt op basis van oude bewaarde maten en is in 1989 gemaakt.

The building you will find here is a replica of an old weir: De Batinghe Schut. The original stood a little further in the Dwingeler Stroom for centuries. A heavy wooden fence hung from chains on the axle, which was lowered in the autumn and hoisted up again in the spring. The sludge collected by the backwater served as fertilizer for the adjacent meadows. The arrival of fertilizers made the lock redundant and it fell into disrepair.
This reconstruction was made on the basis of old preserved sizes and was made in 1989.
