Roos Tor is a large tor with the Walkham catchment on its east side and the Tavy catchment on the west side. On its summit is a military flagpole. Roos Tor is well outside the Merrivale range so you can visit even when the flag is flying. You will not be able to walk past the range poles which are well to the north of the Tor. Around the Tor are 13 boundary stones bearing the letter “B” on their faces and showing that this area once formed part of the Duke of Bedford’s estate. The reason was to protect Roos Tor from predatory granite workers that were very active in this area around 1880.
