I want to show you a lost place that we discoverd by chance.
It's a ruin of a suger refinery. There are some impressive machinery and plant equipment in a remarkable condition.
"In 1765, the superb Bel Ombre estate was created, whose action focused on agriculture and the cultivation of the famous Mauritian sugar cane. The naturalist Charles Telfair subsequently acquired this estate to bring various technical and botanical innovations to it and after his death, a local company called the Compagnie Sucrière de Bel Ombre (CSBO) acquired the estate, as well as several neighboring sugar properties. The Rogers group bought the Bel Ombre estate in 1971 and it was unfortunately in 1999 that the industry closed its doors, to give life to a tourist hub. Luxury hotels and villas, a nature reserve, helipad and championship golf course now blend into the magnificent landscape of blooming sugar cane fields. The old factory houses a Fangourin (mill for crushing sugar cane), stone walls, period turbines and remains of the old station, and now hosts many events. Skilfully restored, La Place du Moulin brings this preserved heritage back to life."
