The Raczyński Library in Poznań is the first municipal library in the city. It was established by Earl Edward Raczyński as a part of the planned cultural complex in the center of Poznań. The design of the building was probably made by Napoleonic architects Charles Percier and Pierre Fontaine around 1820. A year later, the Count purchased a plot of land from the Prussian authorities at the present Liberty Square, so that construction could begin the next year, which lasted six years (1822-1828).
