Smit Internationale is een Nederlands bedrijf dat internationale bekendheid geniet op het gebied van sleepdiensten, berging van scheepswrakken en bescherming van het milieu bij scheepsongelukken.

Op 27 Mei 2005 is door minister van Verkeer en Waterstaat, Karla Peijs, ter gelegenheid van de opening van het nieuwe kantoor van Smit Internationale aan de Rotterdamse Waalhaven, deze boei aangeboden.
Karla Peijs (Tilburg, 1 september 1944 was minister van Verkeer en Waterstaat in de kabinetten Balkenende II en III. Hierna werd zij commissaris van de Koningin van de provincie Zeeland en inmiddels gepensioneerd.

De rood-witte boei markeert in de scheepvaart een gebied met een veilig vaarwater.

Op de boei zit een plaquette met de volgende opschrift (In het Nederlands en Engels):

Smit Internationale is a Dutch company that is internationally known for sleeping services, shipwreck salvage and environmental protection in the event of shipping accidents.

On May 27, 2005, the Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, Karla Peijs, presented this buoy on the occasion of the opening of the new office of Smit Internationale at Waalhaven in Rotterdam.
Karla Peijs (Tilburg, September 1, 1944 was Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management in cabinets Balkenende II and III. After this she became Queen's Commissioner of the province of Zeeland and has since retired.

The red and white buoy marks an area with a safe waterway in shipping.

On the buoy is a plaque with the following inscription (In Dutch and English):
