EN: This bronze alphorn stands in front of the entrance to the Zermatt town hall. It was created by the two Italian sculptors Paolo Albertelli and Mariagrazia Abbaldo and is simply called "The Alphorn".
The Alphorn is split at the top and contains larch branches on which seven tiny figures climb around. This is a reference to the seven first climbers of the Matterhorn in 1865, four of whom met their deaths on the descent. The sculpture was erected in 2015 to mark the 150th anniversary of the first ascent. The tip of the alphorn points exactly to the Matterhorn.
DE: Dieses Bronze-Alphorn steht vor dem Eingang zum Gemeindehaus von Zermatt. Es wurde von den beiden italienischen Bildhauer Paolo Albertelli und Mariagrazia Abbaldo geschaffen und heisst einfach "The Alphorn".
Das Alphorn ist an der Oberseite gespalten und enthält Lärchenzweige an denen sieben winzige Figuren herumklettern. Das ist ein Verweis auf die sieben Erstbesteiger des Matterhorns 1865, von den vier beim Abstieg den Tod fanden. Die SKulptur wurde 2015 zum 150-Jahr-Jubiläum der Erstbesteigung errichtet. Die Spitz des Alphorns zeigt genau auf das Matterhorn.
