From a local newspaper (translated from Dutch):
"Naked lady brightens up Mechels Plaisanceplein
A striking sculpture has graced the hotly contested Plaisanceplein in Mechelen since Friday.

The sculpture is the work of sculptress Mariëtte Teugels. She is best known in the Dijlestad as the lady who transformed 'De Cellekens' on the Minderbroedersgang from a neglected inner garden into one of the most beautiful places in the city.
Now she was allowed to place one of her works at this entrance gate of Mechelen. Teugels hopes that the sculpture, a female nude that reaches up to the sky with both arms, can make people happy and cheerful. That's why she called it "Cry of Joy."
The artwork cost 54,000 euros. 'Which is a normal price for a bronze statue of that size,' says Alderman of Culture Frank Nobels (independent). 'We know the qualities of Mariette Teugels as a sculptor and it is a beautiful, anatomically correct sculpture. Moreover, as a local government, we set a good example to spend a certain percentage of the infrastructure costs on art.'"
