from wikipedia:

The Sacred Heart statue, a gift from the parishioners to pastor J. Klijn (1872-1924) on the occasion of his silver jubilee, was made in the Bossche studio Van Bokhoven en Jonkers. It dates from 1922. The statue was placed on a site next to the Sint-Jacobus de Meerderekerk.

The natural stone statue shows a standing Christ figure, dressed in draped robes. He holds both his hands, containing the stigmata, stretched out invitingly. The Sacred Heart is visible on his chest. The statue stands on a masonry plinth.

According to Christian doctrine, Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and the messiah promised by God in the Old Testament (Tanakh) through the prophets (including Isaiah 53: 3 and further), [1] the Anointed One of God, who freed from their sins and restores the harmony between God and humans that was broken as a result of the fall of the first humans into Paradise. According to the Bible, Jesus was born to save people from their sins. According to the explanation in the Gospels, his death made possible reconciliation with God the Father by taking upon himself the penalty for the sins of mankind: Jesus is "the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." The view that Jesus reconciles man to God with his death on the cross is described as reconciliation doctrine. The Abrahamic principle of justification by faith thus took on a new meaning: anyone who imitates Jesus will be justified (rehabilitated) before God.
