Op de Markt, het plein voor het prachtige, gotische stadhuis van de Nederlandse provinciestad Middelburg vind je dit bijzondere kunstwerk. Tot groot vermaak van omstanders en voorbijgangers is het stiekem een verborgen fontein. Wie namelijk op één van de stoelen plaatsneemt - daartoe uitgenodigd door twee geheimzinnige kijkgaten en de tekst "Kijk in de tunnel en je ziet het rioleringssysteem van de stad uit de 8e eeuw" - activeert onbewust een mechanisme dat water begint te spuiten. De sokkel in het midden van het kunstwerk bevat bovenop een fraai brons tafereel, dat aangeeft hoe het plein en het stadhuis er van boven uitzien.
Het kunstwerk verwijst met een knipoog naar de weelderige 'miniatuurcultuur' van de Zeeuwse hoofdstad. In het verleden was in de binnenstad namelijk een beroemd miniatuurpark te vinden, waarin de meest bekende gebouwen van het eiland Walcheren in het klein waren nagebouwd. Dat miniatuurpark is er overigens nog steeds; het is inmiddels wel verhuisd naar de rand van de stad.

You will find this special work of art on the Markt, the square in front of the beautiful, Gothic town hall of the Dutch provincial town of Middelburg. To the delight of bystanders and passers-by, it is secretly a hidden fountain. Whoever takes a seat on one of the chairs - invited to do so by two mysterious peepholes and the text "Look in the tunnel and you will see the city's sewage system from the 8th century" - unconsciously activates a mechanism that starts to spray water. The plinth in the center of the artwork contains a beautiful bronze scene on top, which indicates what the square and the town hall look like from above.
The artwork refers with a wink to the opulent 'miniature culture' of the Zeeland capital. In the past, a famous miniature park could be found in the city center, in which the best known buildings of the island of Walcheren were recreated in miniature. That miniature park is still there; it has since moved to the outskirts of the city.
