“A cerimónia teve lugar na passada sexta feira, no próprio Farol da Ferraria, e visou reconhecer o contributo secular dos seus faroleiros ao serviço da segurança marítima e apoio à comunidade.
O Capitão do porto de Ponta Delgada, Cruz Martins, agradeceu a distinção à Câmara Municipal de Ponta Delgada, considerando o momento como “marcante” na história do Farol da Ferraria, não esquecendo a importância dos faróis na segurança marítima.
Também o Comandante da Zona Marítima dos Açores, José Croca Favinha, agradeceu a distinção, considerando a mesma como “uma demonstração inequívoca da consideração da autarquia pelos serviços prestados em prol da segurança da navegação em águas da ilha de S. Miguel e por todos os faroleiros que aqui prestaram e prestam serviço”.
Dirigindo-se ao Presidente da Câmara, José Manuel Bolieiro, o Comodoro defendeu o estabelecimento, no Farol da Ferraria, de um Centro de Interpretação do farol e núcleo museológico, afirmando que vai retomar o processo junto da Autoridade Marítima Nacional para colocar em marcha o projeto, que, segundo adiantou, espera contar com o apoio da Câmara Municipal de Ponta Delgada.
O Presidente da Câmara manifestou a disponibilidade da autarquia para colaborar no projeto e regozijou-se pela atribuição da distinção honorífica municipal ao Farol da Ferraria, o que “representa, desde logo, o que fomos e o que somos como povo”.
José Manuel Bolieiro saudou o trabalho desempenhado pelos faroleiros e deixou uma palavra de apreço aos jovens cadetes que “começam um percurso que vai ajudar a compreender os valores da vida e constituem um bom exemplo de cidadania”.
“A história imaterial do Farol da Ferraria levou a Câmara Municipal de Ponta Delgada a aprovar, por unanimidade, a proposta apresenta pela Comissão de Toponímia e a nossa autarquia fará tudo o que estiver ao seu alcance para também colaborar no desafio aqui lançado pelo senhor Comandante da Zona Marítima dos Açores” - frisou.
Recorde-se que a sugestão para a entrega do Diploma de Reconhecimento Municipal ao Farol da Ferraria foi apresentada, em outubro deste ano, à Comissão Municipal de Toponímia, Distinções Honoríficas e Património Cultural, presidida por José Andrade, pelo historiador Sérgio Rezendes, Cadetes do Mar, cadetes da Defesa e alunos das turmas 1 e 2 do 9º ano do Colégio do Castanheiro.
De referir que, no início da cerimónia, Sérgio Rezendes fez um breve enquadramento inicial da importância histórica do Farol da Ferraria, seguindo-se a entrega de diplomas, pelo próprio, aos Cadetes do Colégio do Castanheiro."

"The ceremony took place last Friday, at the Farol da Ferraria itself, and aimed to recognize the secular contribution of its lighthouse keepers to the service of maritime security and support to the community.
The Captain of the port of Ponta Delgada, Cruz Martins, thanked the distinction to the City Council of Ponta Delgada, considering the moment as "striking" in the history of Farol da Ferraria, not forgetting the importance of lighthouses in maritime safety.

Addressing the Mayor, José Manuel Bolieiro, the Commodore defended the establishment, at Farol da Ferraria, of an Interpretation Center for the lighthouse and museological nucleus, stating that he will resume the process with the National Maritime Authority to set in motion the project, which, he said, hopes to count on the support of the Ponta Delgada City Council.
The Mayor expressed the availability of the municipality to collaborate in the project and was delighted with the attribution of the municipal honorary distinction to Farol da Ferraria, which “represents, from the outset, what we were and what we are as a people”.
José Manuel Bolieiro welcomed the work carried out by the lighthouse keepers and left a word of appreciation to the young cadets who “begin a journey that will help to understand the values ??of life and constitute a good example of citizenship”.
“The immaterial history of Farol da Ferraria led the City Council of Ponta Delgada to unanimously approve the proposal presented by the Commission of Toponymy and our local authority will do everything in its power to also collaborate in the challenge launched by Mr. Commander of the Azores Maritime Zone ”- he stressed.
It is recalled that the suggestion for the delivery of the Municipal Recognition Diploma to Farol da Ferraria was presented, in October this year, to the Municipal Commission of Toponymy, Honorary Distinctions and Cultural Heritage, chaired by José Andrade, by the historian Sérgio Rezendes, Cadetes do Mar, Defense cadets and students from classes 1 and 2 of the 9th year of Colégio do Castanheiro.
It should be noted that, at the beginning of the ceremony, Sérgio Rezendes made a brief initial outline of the historical importance of the Farol da Ferraria, followed by the delivery of diplomas, by himself, to the Cadets of the Colégio do Castanheiro."
