Kruiningen is a small village with 4,665 inhabitants in the province of Zeeland in the southwest of the Netherlands.
It's history goes back to the beginning of the thirteenth century. The village was created because monks reclaimed the land by building dikes.
In 1953, the Province of Zeeland was hit by an enormous flood disaster. Almost 2,000 people are killed and the damage is enormous. Also in Kruiningen, where 62 people are victims of the water. The village is completely under water for six months.
After the disaster everything is restored and normal life slowly returned.
On the Markt this octagonal gazebo stands on wooden poles with a staircase in front of it.
The exact year of construction is not known, but is in any case after 1953.
There are no chairs or benches in the gazebo, these are put in for example at a concert. The gazebo then functions as a stage for the musicians of the brass band.
There is room for at least 20 people to sit there.
