Lake Hefner is a large man-made lake in northwest Oklahoma City. Besides serving as an important water supply, the lake is a popular destination for water sports. Sailing and windsurfing are particularly popular here, as the lake usually has a good stiff breeze. The lake is also surrounded by parks, a golf course, and hiking / biking trails that go all the way around the lake. Several restaurants are on the east shore of the lake.

There are two large marinas on Lake Hefner. The east shore marina is owned and operated by the Oklahoma City Boat Club (aka the Hefner Yacht Club). This marina, on the south side of the lake, is owned and operated by the City of Oklahoma City. There are a few public docks open to use by anyone (and there is no problem to just drive up and put your boat in the water) but much of the marina is comprised of rental docks where you can leave your sailboat (or whatever) in the water. There is also "dry" sailboat storage on land here. Facilities nearby include the Lake Patrol, Hefner Golf Club, and Stars and Stripes Park.
