This stone pyramid can be found in Bishop's Wood on Magus Muir, three miles to the west of the ancient town of St.Andrews in the Kingdom of Fife on the east coast of Scotland. It marks the site of the area where Bishop James Sharp of St.Andrews was murdered by Covenantors on May 3rd 1679 when coming back by carriage to St.Andrews from Edinburgh along what is now known as the Bishop's Road.

The assassins were lying in wait for the Sheriff of Fife, but instead came upon a chance meeting with the Bishop who they deemed a pro-government enemy.

The memorial was erected by J Whyte-Melville in 1877, and is a ten foot tall rubble-built pyramid on the path through Bishop's Wood. A Latin inscription can be found on the eastern face of the pyramid, and an information board also lies nearby.

A small car park lies on the roadside to the east at the beginning of several trails which traverse the wood. A Covenanters' grave lies not far away on the western side of the wood also.

Location of Pyramid: Bishop's Wood, Magus Muir, St.Andrews.

Approximate Date of Construction: 1/1/1877
