from wikipedia:

Saint-Louis Cathedral is a former Catholic cathedral on Byrsa Hill in ancient Carthage, Tunisia.

Tunisia was a French protectorate from 1881 to the Second World War. The cathedral was built by Cardinal Charles Lavigerie between 1884 and 1890 and was the main church of the entire African continent. The church was named after the canonized King Louis IX of France. It is built in Byzantine-Moorish style and is a cross church of 65 by 30 meters with two towers. Above the intersection, the church has a large dome; a smaller dome is located above the apse.

The cathedral was withdrawn from worship by the new government after the independence of Tunisia. In 1964 the building was confiscated by the Tunisian state and then stood unused for thirty years. In 1993 it became a cultural center under the name of Acropolium.
