Ohtakari is an island and fishing village in the town of Kokkola, in the area of ??the former municipality of Lohtaja. Ohtakari is located at the tip of Lohtaja's Vattajanniemi, at the end of the embankments, as the last island before the outer sea. The distance from Lohtaja church village to Ohtakari is about 10 kilometers.
Ohtakari has, among other things, a fishing harbor, a fishing museum, SLEY's Ohtakari camp center and an old jetty. Ohtakari also has a beacon, Ohtakari pooki, which also serves as a lookout tower. Ohtakari is also part of its annual fish festival and the Ohtakari whitefish veal offered at the party.
In summer, the island has a grill bar, Katiska-Bar. In the immediate vicinity of Ohtakari, Vattajanniemi beach has another observation tower and a barbecue kiosk.
Fishermen lived in their cottages on the island during the best fishing season. The island also operated a pilot station for more than a hundred years. The activities of ancient fishermen are presented in the fishing museum on the island. The embankment road leading to the island from Vattajanniemi was completed in the 1970s.
