De plaats Geldrop kende vanouds textiele huisnijverheid. Aan het einde van de 17e eeuw begon deze te produceren voor de externe markt. Dit gebeurden doorgaans door tussenkomst van fabrikeurs, die oorspronkelijk uit Leiden kwamen, aangetrokken door de lagere lonen in Noord-Brabant. In de 19e eeuw zou Geldrop uitgroeien tot, na Tilburg, het belangrijkste productiecentrum van wollen stoffen in Nederland. Maar ook de linnen- en tricot indrustrie was belangrijk.

W. van den Heuvel & Zn. was de voortzetting van een oudere fabriek, voortkomend uit de firma Van den Heuvel & Eijcken, die vanaf 1820 bestond. In 1895 werd het A. van den Heuvel & Zoon, in 1911 NV Wollenstoffenfabriek v/h A. van den Heuvel & Zoon. In het pand aan de Molenstraat is het huidige Weverijmuseum Geldrop gevestigd.

In 2000 vond de verhuizing van het Weverijmuseum plaats naar de huidige locatie aan de Molenstraat in een prachtig gerestaureerd fabriekspand van de Firma van den Heuvel en Zoon. Het is niet voor niks een Rijksmonument. De verhuizing stond onder leiding van de heer Jaap Boer (oud directeur) die samen met Architect H. J. Henke deze enorme operatie hebben doen slagen. Het museum wordt nog steeds gerund door vrijwilligers. Deze hebben inmiddels een enorme schat aan kennis opgebouwd over hoe het allemaal in het verleden in de diverse textielfabrieken ooit is geweest.

The town of Geldrop has had a traditional textile cottage industry. At the end of the 17th century it started to be produced for the external market. This was usually done through the intervention of manufacturers, who originally came from Leiden, attracted by the lower wages in North Brabant. In the 19th century, Geldrop would develop into the most important production center for woolen fabrics in the Netherlands, after Tilburg. But the linen and tricot industry was also important.

In 2000, the Weverijmuseum moved to its current location on Molenstraat in a beautifully restored factory building belonging to the Van den Heuvel en Zoon firm. It is not for nothing a national monument. The move was led by Mr. Jaap Boer (former director) who, together with Architect H. J. Henke, made this enormous operation a success. The museum is still run by volunteers. They have now built up an enormous wealth of knowledge about what it all used to be like in the various textile factories in the past.
