(visit link)

The chimney of the Muffatwerk on the Isar, which was completed in 1893, is now really a gem. If you look closely, you can read the history of this location from the tower, which is designed in the spirit of Art Nouveau. The lower part once belonged to the 23 meter high water tower of the Muffatbrunnhaus, whose pumping station supplied the city with water from 1836 to 1883. After the construction of the Mangfall Valley Pipeline, it became superfluous, and the Muffatwerk was built in its place towards the end of the century, whose turbines and dynamos supplied the electricity for the city, especially for the street lighting that was ultra-modern at the time. A chimney was needed for the steam boiler system, and after much back and forth, those responsible came to the conclusion that the chimney should be placed on the stump of the old water tower and that it was also given a pretty shell in the style of the time. Muffatwerk and its chimney are now a listed building.
