DE: Über dem Eingang des 1907 erbauten Gebäudes in der Blücherstraße 15-17 im Kölner Stadtteil Nippes prangt das in Stein gehauene Stadtwappen von Köln. In dem Gebäude befindet sich heute das Leonardo-da-Vinci-Gymnasium.
Blasonierung: "Unter rotem Schildhaupt, darin balkenweise drei goldene dreiblättrige Kronen, in Silber 11 schwarze Flammen (5:4:2)."
Bedeutung: Als Mitbegründer der deutschen Hanse im 15. Jahrhundert führt Köln die Farben Rot und Weiß. Die drei Kronen stehen stellvertretend für die heiligen drei Könige, deren Reliquien im zwölften Jahrhundert nach Köln überführt wurden. Die elf schwarzen Flammen sind seit dem 16. Jahrhundert Bestandteil des Wappens und sollen an die Heilige Ursula erinnern, die mit zehn Begleiterinnen auf der Rückkehr von einer Pilgerfahrt nach Rom von Hunnen in der Nähe von Köln ermordet wurde (die Zahl von 11000 Jungfrauen, die seit dem Mittelalter immer wieder verwendet wurde, lässt sich geschichtlich leider nicht belegen).

Meaning: As a co-founder of the German Hanseatic League in the 15th century, Cologne uses the colors red and white. The three crowns represent the three holy kings, whose relics were transferred to Cologne in the twelfth century. The eleven black flames have been part of the coat of arms since the 16th century and are intended to commemorate Saint Ursula, who was murdered by the Huns near Cologne with ten companions on the return from a pilgrimage to Rome (the number of 11,000 virgins who has been used again and again since the Middle Ages, unfortunately cannot be proven historically).
