The Anhalter Bahnhof was the largest of the legendary Berlin terminal stations from the pre-war period. Its monumental reception building was blown up after war damage - with the exception of a small fragment on Askanischer Platz. Other components have been preserved in the German Museum of Technology today, such as the so-called prince portal, which once led to the waiting room for the “highest and highest gentlemen”. Today the portal is the prelude to the two historic locomotive sheds from 1874, in which the museum presents 150 years of German railway history on 6,000 square meters. The locomotive sheds with their turntables in front of them represent the largest exhibition piece and are a reminder of the complex infrastructure that was necessary to operate the railway system.
