Ancien pavillon de chasse datant du XVIIIe siècle, la Faisanderie de Sénart est une structure d'initiation à la forêt. En partenariat avec le conseil départemental de l’Essonne, l’ONF y propose des activités d’éducation à l’environnement destinées aux groupes scolaires.
Les animateurs nature interviennent toute l’année sur des thèmes variés mettant en œuvre les programmes scolaires : les interactions entre les êtres vivants et leur environnement, le rôle et la place des êtres vivants, la biodiversité en forêt, la forêt gérée par les hommes, etc. Sous forme de circuits et d’ateliers participatifs, ils aident les enfants à découvrir la forêt et leur environnement.
La forêt domaniale de Sénart
Elle s'étend sur 3.100 ha et est gérée par l'ONF grâce à un plan d'aménagement pluriannuel (1997-2011). Il prévoit d'améliorer la qualité de l'accueil du public en diversifiant les paysages, de préserver les habitats naturels et les arbres remarquables, de récolter du bois avec pour objectif l'alimentation de la filière bois mais aussi le renouvellement et le développement harmonieux des peuplements forestiers.
La forêt de Sénart est dotée d'une biodiversité remarquable. Elle accueille une faune variée : grands mammifères (sangliers, chevreuils, renards, mais pas de cerf), oiseaux forestiers et de plaine, insectes, reptiles et amphibiens. Les orientations de gestion visent à préserver les habitats (landes, arbres morts, milieux humides, peuplements forestiers variés) pour garantir une forêt vivante à proximité des villes.
Sénart est classée Forêt de protection, ce qui la met à l'abri des convoitises multiples.
