The world's largest Dalecarlian horse (or Dala horse) with a height of 13m and a length of 12.8m is located near the crossing of the national roads 68 and 70 in Avesta, a town in the Swedish province of Dalarna. The horse is built of concrete and weighs 67 tons. It was erected by the danish company Röd-Vit Filial af K/S Dalahästen in the same year as the nearby shopping center Handelsplats Dalahästen and inaugurated at December 13th in 1989. The horse is painted bright red with details in black and a harness in white, green, yellow, dark red and blue.
Nearly 30 years after inauguration the ownership of the horse was transferred on October 2nd, 2019 from the company to the municipality of Avesta for the symbolic price of one Swedish crown. Before this the cracks in the concrete had been filled up and the paint refreshed.
On February 12th in 2020, a jump bar was set up right next to the horse at a height of 6.17m in honor of the Swedish-American pole vaulter and world record holder Armand Duplantis and thus offers a height comparison. The bar was rised after Duplantis beat his own record to 6.18m one week later.
