"The novel starts in a tavern at the entrance to Auria , a transcript of the Ourense of the late nineteenth century. Cibrán, a laborer in the construction of the national highway, goes to work when he meets Bocas and Milhomes, who will convince him to stay and drink. From the text we know that it is a Monday, fair day, which explains the presence of cattle dealers in the bar. The fairs were for years central to the economy of Ourense, where the produce of the neighboring rural area was bought and sold. Today the tradition continues, being celebrated on the 7th, 17th and 26th of each month."
