Ik kwam op mijn vakantie in Tilburg het standbeeld van montseigneur Bekkers tegen. Mijn eigen achternaam (Beckers) en die van de bisschop komen uit Limburgs en Brabants dialect en werd gegeven aan mensen die afstammen van bakkers.
Over het standbeeld (van tilburgers.nl): Het bronzen standbeeld van de Bossche bisschop Bekkers is zondag 27 juni 2010 onthuld. Bekkers was van 1960 tot 1966 bisschop van het bisdom Den Bosch. Het beeld staat bij de Heikese Kerk en is een geschenk van stichting Jacques de Leeuw aan de parochie Binnenstad Tilburg. Deze stichting sponsort culturele en sociale projecten in de gemeente Tilburg. Bisschop Hurkmans van bisdom Den Bosch zegende het beeld na de onthulling in. Monseigneur Bekkers (1908-1966) werd in 1999 in Nederland uitgeroepen tot katholiek van de twintigste eeuw. Hij was in 1956 korte tijd pastoor van de Tilburgse parochie. Het bronzen beeld, gemaakt door kunstenaar Eugène Peters, staat bij het monument tegen zinloos geweld en een beeld van bisschop Zwijsen.
On my vacation in Tilburg I came across the statue of Montseigneur Bekkers. My own surname (Beckers) and that of the bishop come from the Limburg and Brabant dialect and were given to people descended from bakers.
About the statue (from tilburgers.nl): The bronze statue of bishop Bekkers was unveiled on Sunday 27 June 2010. Bekkers was bishop of the diocese of Den Bosch from 1960 to 1966. The statue can be found at the Heikese Church and is a gift from the Jacques de Leeuw foundation to the parish Inner City of Tilburg. This foundation sponsors cultural and social projects in the municipality of Tilburg. Bishop Hurkmans of the diocese of Den Bosch blessed the statue after the unveiling. Monsignor Bekkers (1908-1966) was proclaimed Catholic of the twentieth century in the Netherlands in 1999. In 1956 he was for a short time pastor of the Tilburg parish. The bronze statue, made by artist Eugène Peters, stands next to the monument against senseless violence and a statue of Bishop Zwijsen.
