Samppalinnanpuisto park is the second oldest hill park in Turku. The park is known for offering a great view over the surrounding area and for Restaurant Samppalinna and the Samppalinna Outdoor Swimming Stadium.
The area has a long history, and that history can be seen in both the Olavinpuisto park and the steps called Mustainveljesten portaat (“Dark brothers’ steps”): In the 13th century, a Dominican monastery dedicated to St. Olaf was founded in a location close to the steps, and the monks, who were dressed in black, would often use the steps to get to the monastery.
