"The belfry of Mons is a major heritage of Wallonia and an exceptional heritage for the city of Mons. It has at its top a carillon of 49 bells, historical and of heterogeneous composition. It totals a bronze weight of 24,874 kilograms, which in fact one of the heaviest in Wallonia, weighing 5.500 kg.
In the distant past, a small carillon existed. The clock tower featured 13 bells by the founder Van Harelbeke in 1361.
The belfry of Mons collapsed in 1661, with the 19-bell carillon placed at its top, melted down in 1544 by the Malinois founder Jacques Waghevens. Of this old carillon, nothing remains in the field of the bell tower except a bibliographical trace. The current belfry dates from 1662-1669, barely a year after the collapse. The construction lasted 7 years. It is in baroque style; it is the only belfry in Belgium to be mounted in this style.
The carillon now includes the following bell tower:
- François Delapaix, 1673, 10 bells.
- François Barbieux: 1714, 1 bell
- Joseph Drouot, Clément Habert, Jules Bastien, 1820-1821, 6 bells.
- Félix Van Aerschodt, 1911, 5 bells.
- Marcel Michiels Jr, 1934, 25 bells.
- Eijsbouts: we assume 2 bells. "

"Le beffroi de Mons est un patrimoine majeur de Wallonie et un patrimoine exceptionnel pour la ville de Mons. Il possède à son sommet un carillon de 49 cloches, historique et de composition hétéroclite. Il totalise un poids de bronze de 24.874 kilogrammes, ce qui en fait un des plus lourds de Wallonie. Il est sur base 5.500 kg.
Dans un lointain passé, un petit carillon existait. La tour de l'horloge comportait 13 cloches du fondeur Van Harelbeke en 1361.
Le beffroi de Mons s'écroule en 1661, ce avec le carillon de 19 cloches placé en son sommet, fondu en 1544 par le fondeur malinois Jacques Waghevens. De cet ancien carillon, il ne reste rien en matière campanaire si ce n'est une trace bibliographique. Le beffroi actuel date de 1662-1669, soit un an à peine après l'effondrement. La construction dura 7 ans. Il est de style baroque ; c'est le seul beffroi de Belgique à être monté sur ce style.
Le carillon comporte aujourd'hui l'ensemble campanaire suivant :
