A spectacular place in the nature of Mauritius is the crater of the dormant Trou-aux-Cerfs volcano. Less than 20 kilometers from the capital, the crater of a dormant volcano is located in the city of Curepipe. Mauritius is home to little hidden treasures.

The Trou-aux-Cerfs crater measures about 300 meters in diameter and has a depth of 80 meters. Despite its height, 605 meters, it stands out too much in the plain of central Mauritius. Integrated into the urban area of ??Curepipe, however, it is a very accessible natural destination that must be visited.

The vegetation has covered it and the intense green of the trees contrasts with the black waters of the center of the caldera and the intense blue of the Mauritius sky.

A circular road surrounds the crater. From the ridge there are very good views of the town of Curepipe and the mountains of Saint Pierre and du Rempart, known as Tris mamelles (Three breasts, female). If the weather is very clear you can even see the French island of Reunion. We recommend not going during the weekend as it is a very touristy place.

You can go down to the bottom of the crater by several trails, but the descent can be dangerous depending on the season, especially if you do not have much mobility. It is recommended that you ask the locals.
