A Pena do Equilibrio, is part of the set of granite balls to which the “Pena dos Namorados” also belongs, belonging to the parish of Arcos, in Ponteareas. It stands out for being a huge boulder located on another, in full balance.
A true whim of nature, which in an unlikely way defies gravity.
A Pena do Equilibrio also known as Penedo do Capón .
A rock that rests on another, joined by a tiny point, maintaining balance.
Both rocks remain assembled for just a few centimeters, and it is inevitable to observe this union carefully, trying to appreciate some element that makes one understand how it is possible for the upper rock to remain there and not tremble when it comes to pushing it, since the inclination of the upper slab is considerable.
It is said that the stone moves and that, in the past, to verify it, the monks of the Canedo Monastery, located very close to the rocks, when passing through the area tried to throw the upper rock to the ground, without any result.
But to demonstrate that the stone moved, they placed a glass bottle at the junction of both rocks, and the next day they returned to the place and found that the bottle was broken, corroborating their theory.
