It's a festival rooted in religious traditions, a fusion of influences from the Catholic world and from the pre-Columbus local religions.

There are processions and masses but the zenith of the festival is the parade, which will remind many of the Brazilian Carnival. More than 170 groups compete and along the day over 40.000 dancers and musicians will parade.
