Brat Tor has a 12 ft 8in high granite cross on it's summit it’s known as Widgery Cross.
It was erected by of William Widgery, the well known local artist, to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887.
The tor is well outside the firing range but you may hear firing.
The Willsworthy Firing Range is to the south east of the tor, you will be able to see 4 flagpoles from the tor, if the red flags are flying you must not walk beyond the range poles.
Parking is in the Highdown Carpark. Drive up the small track on the north side of the Dartmoor Inn pub off the A386, drive through the gate, and follow the right hand track into the carpark. I suggest you set your GPS for the footbridge N50.39.163 W004.04.689 you will need to cross this bridge after rainfall. I must warn you that it is a very steep climb to the top of the tor!
