The Isle of Man Sea Terminal in Douglas is the only passenger ferry terminal for travel to the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Douglas Port is the home port of the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company which is currently (Summer 2020) owned by the Island Government and is the sole operator for passenger ferry service from the Port. The IoM Steam Packet operates to passenger ferries the M.V. Ben My Chree and H.S.C Manannan.

The M.V. Ben My Chree carries vehicle passengers and foot passenger as well as containers and container lorries, vans, motorhomes and coaches.

The H.S.C. Manannan carries vehicle passengers and foot passengers.

The IoM Steam Packet sail daily, subject to weather and tidal conditions, to and from Douglas to Heysham and Liverpool in the United Kingdom with summer services to Belfast and Dublin in Ireland. Timetable details can be found at the following link: (visit link)

The terminal was built in 1965, to handle rising passenger numbers, and also for security reasons.

The 'three leg' plan of the original building is not visually evident when close to the building but is apparent when viewed from above.

The office tower is circular and has an inclined facade which is designed to deflect the wind as the building is on a very exposed site.

Like the rendering on the Methodist Church on the adjacent promenade this building's rendering contains crushed blue glass.

The distinctive roof of the building which gives the building its alternative name of 'the lemon squeezer' appears to be constructed of folded concrete but is in fact formed in timber and plywood.

The main building has a precast concrete frame.
