The following is from the Vancouver Daily Province's edition of July 26, 1950:

Dawson, Yukon

"One man was killed and another seriously injured when a private plane crashed about 90 miles up-river from here. A flying rescue team brought the injured man to hospital Tuesday. It was two day overdue, on a flight from a northern mining camp. Killed in the crash was Harold M. 'Bud' Holbrook, 36, one of Yukon's best known dredge men, superintendent of Yukon Gold Placers, and pilot of the aircraft. Pilot Holbrooke bought the plane, a Fairchild Cornell, in Vancouver last March. He had used it to fly between the Thistle Creek mining operations and Dawson. Seriously injured in the crash was John Drott, 18 of Dawson. The crash occurred about four miles from Thistle Creek"
