The botanical garden is organized in a circular fashion in eleven flower beds where more than 3,000 species grow. Its organization obeys Candolle's classification, as with the Golden Head: these two parks remain the only evidence of this kind of botanical presentation. In order to understand this organization, the visitor should browse the botanical garden starting from acotyledons (mushrooms, mosses and ferns), then going up towards the center of the circle by turning clockwise until the angiosperms. Thus, the plants become more and more imposing, and we go from grasses to shrubs.

Each plant is identified with a small sign recalling its scientific classification. A color code identifies the plants according to their main property: red for officinal plants, white for food plants, yellow for plants for industrial use, black for toxic plants and finally green for the rest of the plants.

The botanical garden through its former manager Louis Diard participated in the creation of the Atlas of flora of Ille-et-Vilaine produced in collaboration with the National Museum of Natural History and the National Botanical Conservatory of Brest. This inventory, which lists almost 1,500 plant species, was officially launched in 1985.

From 1998 to 2005, the botanical garden was approved by the Charter of Botanical Gardens of France and French-speaking countries. It is home to 3,120 different species and exchange of seeds with other parks. One hundred and twenty-five botanical gardens in thirty-five different countries receive seeds from the Thabor park: in 2007, around 1,800 seeds were sent and the park received 92 different catalogs and more than five hundred seed samples . These exchanges are an ancient practice and the city has published a catalog of seeds for more than a century. The seeds collected are also used to sow other Rennes parks. "

Le jardin botanique est organisé de manière circulaire en onze plates-bandes où poussent plus de 3 000 espèces. Son organisation obéit à la classification de Candolle, comme à la Tête d’Or : ces deux parcs restent les seuls témoignages de ce genre de présentation botanique. Afin de comprendre cette organisation, le visiteur devrait parcourir le jardin botanique en partant des acotylédones (champignons, mousses et fougères), puis en remontant vers le centre du cercle en tournant dans le sens horaire jusqu’aux angiospermes. Ainsi, les plantes deviennent de plus en plus imposantes, et on passe des herbes aux arbustes.

Chaque plante est identifiée avec un petit panneau rappelant sa classification scientifique. Un code de couleur permet d’identifier les plantes selon leur propriété principale : rouge pour les plantes officinales, blanc pour les plantes alimentaires, jaune pour les plantes à utilisation industrielle, noir pour les plantes toxiques et enfin vert pour le reste des plantes.

Le jardin botanique par l’intermédiaire de son ancien responsable Louis Diard a participé à la création de l’Atlas de flore d’Ille-et-Vilaine réalisé en collaboration avec le Muséum national d’histoire naturelle et le Conservatoire botanique national de Brest. Ces échanges sont une pratique ancienne et la ville édite un catalogue des graines depuis plus d’un siècle. Les graines récoltées servent aussi à ensemencer les autres parcs de Rennes."
