Early 16th century carved wooden bench ends in St Nonna's church, Altarnun. They were carved in oak by Robart Daye between 1510 and 1530 (Pevsner attributes them to 1524 or later). His signature is on the bench end next to the font. There are 79 of them in total, and the images cover all aspects of life, religious and secular. The secular images give an insight into life in the early 16th century. Jesters and musicians (including a Cornish piper and fiddler) were part of Robart Daye’s world.
One of the damaged pew ends was repaired to its former glory by the late local master joiner Douglas Edwards in the 1980's.
