It is situated in the main ridge right between the hills Krúpova hola (1927 m) and Králicka (1785 m). From the north it looks like a huge alpine massif with 500 m high granite walls, pillars and canals falling steeply down to the glacier basin of the Bystrá (Swift) and the Ludárová Valley.
The southern slopes are by far not that steep. They are covered by granite blocks. There are some chamoix and marmots that live in the northern slopes.
Iron ore, gold and antimonite were mined in the slopes of the Dumbier peak in past. Signs of this activity are still visible in all valleys at the bottom of the Dumbier peak.
There were heavy fights between German soldiers and Slovak Guerilla Troops in the saddleback between Dumbier and Králicka during the World War 2. Therefore a memorial devoted to the Slovak partisans was built at the Chata Gen. M. R. Štefánika (Chalet of Gen. M. R. Štefánik) in winter in 1944.
From the Dumbier peak you have 360° wide breathtaking view at all the mountains of the Central and Northern Slovakia.
