Rawson Square located in downtown Nassau, is the gateway to the city for cruise-ship passengers. It was named for Sir Rawson W. Rawson who was Governor of The Bahamas during the late 1860s. In the middle of the square is a bronze bust of Sir Milo Butler, the first Bahamian Governor General in an independent Bahamas. A fountain in the square was named for Sir Stafford Sands, the first Bahamian Minister of Tourism.

The bronze Bahamian Woman Memorial by Randolph W. Johnston depicts a mother holding her baby. The marker reads: "In grateful tribute to the Bahamian Woman whose steadfast love and devotion sustained our nation through countless years of adversity. Original motion to erect this monument by Hon. Oscar N. Johnson passed in House of Assembly on 12 March 1968. This monument presented to Bahamian people by Edward M. Carey, Grand Bahaman Petroleum Company Limited on INDEPENDENCE PLUS ONE. Dedicated 5 August 1974 by Hon. Lynden O. Pindling, Prime Minister."

During the Bahamas' Quincentennial Celebrations in 1992, a monument was erected in Rawson Square by the Bahamas Association of Land Surveyors in honor of Christopher Columbus' landfall.
